J.R. SMITH’S POWER CYCLING CAMP 2010/2011

This year we will be continuing with a 4 phase periodization program (Base/Strength,

VO2/Anerobic Capacity, Lactate Threshold and Competition). We will also continue with the

Elite category in our program. The program now contains Sport, Expert and Elite workout

protocols all within the same class structure. The categories are determined by pre program

wattage testing done on lab model Computrainers. The breakdown is as follows:

Sport – less than 1.30 watts per lb of body weight at VO2

Expert – 1.30 to 1.59 watts per lb of body weight at VO2

Elite – 1.60 plus watts per lb of body weight at VO2

This breakdown lets riders of all abilities participate in the program and get the same benefit of

structured workouts to maximize their performance.

We will also be continuing our very successful 3 hour seminar on training, nutrition and sports

medicine as part of our program. We will have additional noted experts in their field on these

subjects.

Registration for the program will begin on Sept. 20th, 2010 and the first class will start on

November 15th, 2010. Classes end on March 12th, 2011. Register early as we have limited space

and usually fill all available slots prior to the start of Power Camp. Also, just a reminder to

schedule your testing as soon as possible after you register, as time slots get very limited as the

start of Power Camp approaches.

This year we will be back with the Power Camp Extension program, which was so successful

last season. It will consist of three intense workouts per week for the period from March 14th,

2011 thru April 8th, 2011. Sign up early for this as the number of openings are very limited due

to this being a morning class only at most of the facilities. The workouts will also be based on a

power/weight basis so that everyone can participate. This program is limited to participants of

the regular Power Camp program.

We will be adding some very experienced new coaches as well as most of our excellent coaches

from previous years are returning. I can’t say enough about the quality of our coaching staff in

the area of specificity expertise as well as practical application of the workout protocols to help

make your workouts more productive and emphasize our philosophy of training smart.

Hope to see everyone back for the 2010/2011 season as well as some new faces.
